Jackson Heights is a neighborhood located in the borough of Queens in New York City, New York. The area of present-day Jackson Heights was originally known from colonial times as Trains Meadow. During the urban sprawl and housing boom in New York City around the turn of the 20th century, the Queensboro Corporation bought more than 300 acres to create the neighborhood of Jackson Heights, named for local businessman John C. Jackson, a descendant of one of the first Queens families. Jackson Heights was conceived as a planned development for middle and upper-middle income families moving from the crowded neighborhoods of Manhattan. Development in Jackson Heights continued through the post-World War II boom. In the 1960s, Jackson Heights began to develop into a more ethnically diverse neighborhood with an influx of families from Latin America and the Indian Subcontinent. In recent years, Jackson Heights has again become a destination for young middle-income families who are attracted by the neighborhood’s diversity and unique architecture.
Yes. New York is one of several “pure” comparative fault states. Under a pure comparative fault system, a plaintiff can recover compensation for his or her injuries and losses even if he or she was partially at-fault; however, the plaintiff’s recovery will be reduced by his or her share of fault. As an example, if a plaintiff is awarded or determined to have suffered $1 million in damages and is found to have been 20 percent at fault for the accident that caused those damages, his or her recovery will be reduced by 20 percent, or $200,000, leaving the plaintiff with a total recovery of $800,000.
If you’ve been involved in a car accident with an uninsured driver, you may still be able to recover compensation for your injuries and damages from your own car insurance policy. If your policy has personal injury protection coverage, it will help pay for medical bills, lost wages, and other out-of-pocket expenses caused by your injuries. In addition, you may be entitled to seek compensation from your policy’s uninsured motorist coverage, which provides compensation for all your damages if you’ve been hit by an uninsured driver.
