Thomas G. Bernard

is a cum laude graduate of New York University, where he completed NYU’s four-year academic requirements in just three years.

During his time at NYU, Mr. Bernard was consistently named to the Dean’s List and received NYU’s Founders’ Day Award. In addition to these academic achievements, he was recognized by and inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society.

While attending NYU, Mr. Bernard dedicated part of his time to serving as an ombudsman in the child welfare division of the New York City Public Advocate’s Office. In that role, he investigated claims against foster parents on behalf of children and helped many families navigate New York’s child welfare system. Mr. Bernard took great pride in this work, as it allowed him to give a voice to those who are too often unheard.

After graduating from NYU, Mr. Bernard earned his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City in 2006 and was admitted to the Bar in 2007.

Mr. Bernard is currently licensed to practice law in the State of New York, in both state and federal courts. His legal practice focuses on tort litigation, including automobile accidents, premises liability, and construction accident cases.

He is also a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Bernard had a distinguished career in the music industry as a recording engineer for a variety of well-known artists. Drawing on these prior experiences, he brings a creative approach to problem-solving, along with a focused and analytical approach to the law. He remains committed to giving a voice to those in need and representing individuals who have been injured due to the negligence of others.

Philanthropy

In 2011, Mitchell Proner formed The Proner Kids Foundation, a non-profit corporation that provides cash gifts to children who have lost parents in motorcycle accidents, regardless of fault. Any members of the riding community are welcome to inquire for funding on behalf of any child who has lost a parent in a motorcycle accident.

Members Of The Motorcycle Community

Mitchell Proner understands the bias that police, insurance companies, and the public hold against riders. He works to overcome that bias—in court if necessary—and get injured motorcyclists the best possible recovery.

Mitchell fights for riders’ constitutional rights. He has defended members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club and other bikers arrested while exercising their First Amendment rights, and he has lobbied for changes to laws that affect motorcyclists. He supports, and holds positions in, many organizations for riders:

  • Attorney Chairman of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), an organization of over 800 U.S. and Canadian motorcyclist groups.
  • Recipient of NCOM’s prestigious “Silver Spoke” Award in recognition of his legal work improving the image of motorcycling.
  • Member, American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) of New York.
  • Member, Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA).
