A motor vehicle accident involving three cars resulted in one car being overturned and caused serious injury.
The car accident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, July 9. A Dodge Charger was headed in the northern direction in the southbound lane on State Highway 47 at milepost 20 in Dennisville, New Jersey. Then a Toyota Highlander and a Kia neared the Dodge from the southbound lane. When the Dodge moved closer to the Toyota, the operator of the Toyota tried to avoid a collision with the Dodge by swerving into the northbound lane.
Eventually, the Dodge crashed into the rear of the Toyota and caused the Toyota to flip over on the passenger side. The Dodge then resumed going north in the southbound lane and subsequently crashed head-on into the Kia. The operator of the Dodge, Christopher Vazquez, an Atco NJ resident, suffered a laceration to his mouth and a bloody nose in the car accident.
The passenger in the Dodge was later taken to Cape Regional Medical Center to be evaluated. The motorist and passengers in the Toyota suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the operator of the Kia suffered a laceration to the head and complained of pain throughout her body.
Police conducted a criminal investigation into the accident, resulting in the following criminal charges being filed against Vazquez:
- Assault by auto
- Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
- Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Driving under the influence
Vazquez may face further criminal charges. In addition, he may have to confront charges of negligence because it was allegedly his negligent, reckless behavior that caused the serious auto accident.
