As a 14-year-old boy walked across a street in Brooklyn, a reckless motorist crashed into him, and caused him to be severely injured. The collision occurred on the night of Sunday, January 22nd, just after 6:00 p.m., in Greenpoint, close to Greenpoint and Manhattan avenues.
The 14-year-old boy was struck by a white Porsche Cayenne operated by 39-year-old Guo Lu. Following the collision with the teen, the Porsche leaned into a pole at the entry to a check-cashing outlet. The manager of the outlet, Abdullah Muhammad, age 23, said he believed he had heard a bomb. He said the victim flew 10 feet in the air.
The teen was immediately taken to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was described as serious. According to police, he suffered severe, though non-life-threatening, injuries. At the scene of the accident were a woman and two men. However, it is unknown as to what part they played in the collision. Police arrested Mr. Lu, who faces the charge of reckless endangerment. Officials are uncertain as to whether Mr. Lu was driving at an excessive rate of speed or if the boy was in a crosswalk.
