On the morning of Saturday, February 4, 2017, a fender bender intensified into a fight inspired by road rage. The violence started at about 4:20 a.m. in Queens, along the Grand Central Parkway and close to the Long Island Expressway, when the bumpers of two cars collided. Both vehicles pulled over, and a number of passengers exited and became involved in an argument.
As the argument escalated, Hassan Jones, age 28, of Ozone Rock, was kicked and punched. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of a black Infiniti sedan. When Mr. Jones collapsed onto the road, he was hit by a third vehicle, a white Acura. The driver of the Acura fled the scene, and Mr. Jones was dragged many hundred feet, and died at the scene.
Police charged the driver of the Acura with leaving the scene of an accident that caused a fatality. He was identified as Starlyn-Antonio Colon-Burgos, age 19, of 57th Avenue, Queens. Following the brawl, the operator of the Infiniti drove off, and the two passengers in the back seat remained at the scene. The people in the Nissan left the scene.
