Hit-and-Run Motorist in Brooklyn Car Accident Turns Himself in

A motorist who allegedly hit and injured a six-year-old boy last month has been arrested and charged with causing a hit-and-run accident. On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 7, 53-year-old Armando Mina turned himself in to police at the 66th Precinct station in New York.
The auto accident occurred two weeks ago when six-year-old Luis Amen-Dano was attempting to cross Hamilton Parkway at 41st Street in Brooklyn, New York. Luis was accompanied by his father and younger brother. According to surveillance video, the motorist initially stopped after striking Luis; however, the motorist reportedly did not exit the vehicle to offer any assistance to the car accident victim.
Luis was briefly treated at the scene and then received additional medical treatment at Maimonides Hospital for a broken hand, broken foot, and cuts and bruises on his body.
As a result of the motor vehicle accident, Luis has been forced to lie in bed for extended periods of time while experiencing a great deal of pain caused by his injuries. Thus, he does not make any movement unless it is absolutely needed.
During an interview with Eyewitness News, Luis’ father, Jose Alberto Amendano, said that the motorist who caused the pedestrian accident should have helped Luis.
The family is now seeking justice. One option that they have is to file a personal injury lawsuit alleging negligence on the part of the defendant. They may be able to recover compensation to cover Luis’ medical expenses, as well as his pain and suffering. In addition, they may be able to recover lost earnings from work that they had to miss in order to take care of Luis.
