A Bad Driving Decision in Rochester NY Results in Two-Car Collision, Causing Injury

A terrible accident involving two vehicles occurred during the afternoon of Wednesday, June 22, on Interstate-490. The driver, a female motorist in a red Chevrolet Cobalt, allegedly caused the car accident as she headed in the western direction in Rochester, New York. The motorist and her two children suffered serious injuries in the non-fatal car crash.
One of the children in the auto accident, an eight-year-old boy, was sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle and suffered the most severe injuries. Although the injuries sustained by the other child and the adult motorist were not as serious, all of the car crash victims were still taken to the hospital. The person operating the other vehicle, a yellow Humvee, stayed at the scene after the crash and spoke with police investigators.
According to Officer Mark O’Donnell, the female motorist driving the Chevrolet Cobalt was in the center lane and suddenly moved to the right. Meanwhile, the Humvee had just moved onto I-490 from the Monroe on-ramp and collided with the other car. Officer O’Donnell said law enforcement believes that the female motorist made a last-second decision and attempted to reach the exit at Goodman Street, causing her to cut in front of the Humvee.
In addition to the physical injuries, there was also significant property damage as a result of the motor vehicle accident. While the Cobalt was destroyed, the Humvee landed on its side.
Officer O’Donnell went on to say that during times of high traffic volume, drivers tend to move at high rates of speed and can easily become distracted. Due to the many distractions both on the roadway and in their car, it is easy for a driver to sometimes forget where they are going. This can lead to the driver making a bad decision, which may have happened in the Rochester NY car crash.
If the accounts of law enforcement are accurate, it was a case of poor judgment on the part of the motorist who decided to cut in front of another vehicle in order to get off an exit. If the driver is found to be responsible for the car accident, she could even face the civil charge of negligence from the driver of the Cobalt and the parents of the two children who suffered injuries.
