Courtroom-Seasoned Construction Accident Lawyers Help Injured Victims Recover Full Compensation From Accidents In Jamaica, Queens, New York

Whenever people pass by a fenced excavation, scaffolding works or a crane on top of a building being constructed, they often pay very little attention to what’s going on in the construction site. But it is an established fact that construction sites are among the most dangerous places to work in America. A construction site is a hotspot of any number of accidents and injuries that can happen on any given day while work goes on.

Injured In A Construction Accident And Have Questions? We Can Help, Tell Us What Happened.

A construction site poses a high-risk of serious injury not only to the workers on-site as well as to those living in houses and buildings adjacent to the site. When an accident happens in a construction site, the injuries sustained by those persons who get seriously hurt could be devastating, debilitating, and sometimes even paralyzing. On top of this, the injured person, if he does come out of it alive, would most likely come out of the hospital with a ton of medical bills to pay and unsure whether he would still be able to go back to work or whether they would even be welcomed by their employer. With no job, a pile of medical and other bills and a family to feed, it’s just the perfect storm.

About Jamaica, Queens

Jamaica is a middle-class neighborhood in the Queens borough of New York City. Although there are parts of the neighborhood that are also residential, it is mainly composed of a large commercial and retail area. Jamaica is bordered to the north by Kew Gardens Hills, Jamaica Hills, and Jamaica Estates. To the South, it is bordered by South Jamaica; and by St. Albans, Springfield Gardens, and Rochdale Village to the southeast. To the east, Jamaica is bordered by Hollis. To the west, it is bordered by Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park; and by Briarwood to the northwest.

Jamaica was first settled under Dutch rule in 1656 in New Netherland as Rustdorp. Under the British rule, Jamaica became the center of the “Town of Jamaica”. In 1683, Jamaica became the first county seat of Queens County, and held that title until 1788. It was also the first incorporated village on Long Island. In 1898, when Queens was incorporated into the City of Greater New York, both the Town of Jamaica and the Village of Jamaica were dissolved. However, the neighborhood of Jamaica recaptured its role as county seat. Today, some neighborhood locals cluster Jamaica and its surrounding neighborhoods into an unofficial Greater Jamaica. This unofficial grouping roughly corresponds to the area of the former Town of Jamaica.

Several government buildings are located in Jamaica. Some of these are the Queens Civil Court, the civil branch of the Queens County Supreme Court, the Queens Family Court and the Joseph P. Addabbo Federal Building, which is the office of the Social Security Administration’s Northeastern Program Service Center. The area around Jamaica Avenue called Jamaica Center is a major commercial hub. The John F. Kennedy International Airport and hotels nearby can also be found in Jamaica.

Frequently-Asked Questions About Construction Accidents In Jamaica, Queens

FAQ: How much time do I have to file a claim after my construction accident?

Under New York law, you only have 30 days from the day your construction accident happened to report your accident to your employer in writing. You also have only up to two years to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits if you suffered injuries as a result of the accident. If you can file a third-party personal injury claim, you have three years from the date when the construction accident happened to sue for compensation.

FAQ2: How do I make an application for workers’ compensation benefits?

A formal application for workers’ compensation starts with a form called C-3 in New York. This form will ask you for a number of personal and employment information (including how much pay you get). It will also require you to state how the accident happened, the injury you suffered, any medical treatment you have had, and whether or not you were able to go back to work.
