A motorcycle collision claimed the life of a popular New Port Richey, Fla. musician named Robert Leroy Cartwright. He was just 33 years old. The crash occurred at U.S. Highway 19 at Beach Boulevard in Hudson, on the night of Sunday, November 27th.
Mr. Cartwright was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet after the crash to be treated for the injuries he suffered in the accident. The crash also involved an S.U.V., which was operated by Francine Cherry, age 56, of Port Richey.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Mr. Cartwright was riding in the southern direction on US-19 when Ms. Cherry made a left turn into the path of his motorcycle. The motorcycle then hit the back of the S.U.V., and Mr. Cartwright was thrown from the motorcycle.
News of his death was circulated on social media, where Mr. Cartwright was mourned on the Facebook page of The Bearded Brothers Band, the band in which he played the fiddle.
There have been a number of such tragic accidents in which motorists make left turns into the oncoming path of a motorcyclist, often resulting in the death of the motorcyclist. In many cases, they simply fail to notice the biker, or are distracted, and neglect to pay attention to approaching traffic.
