Two People Were Injured When a Bear Ran in Front of Their Motorcycle

Motorcycle Accident Attorney NYCRepresenting motorcycle riders in motorcycle accident cases for over thirty years, we have heard just about every possible story about how a motorcycle rider can get into an accident.  Still, even for us, this motorcycle accident is a new one. On June 4th, 2018, two people were injured when a bear ran in front of their motorcycle on a road in rural western Connecticut.

State police say the driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries.

Sixty-two-year-old Paul Padua, of Norfolk, was driving on Route 202 in Washington at the time of the accident Sunday afternoon. He and his passenger, 53-year-old Theresa Kochiss-Padua, were taken to Danbury Hospital.  The motorcycle had to be towed. It was unclear whether the bear was hurt.

When riders are injured in motorcycle accidents with wild animals, they often ask us whether a claim can be brought against the State for injuries sustained.  The short answer is no. There is no recognized claim for the State failing to manage the deer population, bear population, etc.

We have however been successful in representing people in motorcycle accidents where they have had a motorcycle crash with domestic animals such as pet dogs. We even had one successful case where a rider crashed his motorcycle into a dairy cow.
