Construction Worker Suffers Injury as He Falls into Hole at Construction Site

It was reported that someone fell in a hole at a construction site, just after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31st, between 7th and 8th Avenues. The exact site of the accident was 221 West 29th Street. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel hastened to the scene and were able to pull the man from the hole, and place him into an ambulance.

According to an FDNY spokesman, his condition was stable while en route to Bellevue Hospital. He suffered minor leg injuries. However, a witness, who did not wish to reveal his name, said that the injured man worked in construction, fell perhaps 12 feet, and might have broken his legs.

It was also reported in a Twitter account that follows NYPD and FDNY radio scanners that the hole was approximately 15 feet deep. The FDNY was unable to confirm this information. The building that is being constructed at the site is said to be an apartment tower comprised of 21 stories and 95 units. The developer is CBSK Ironstate.

In 2016, there were 29 fatalities of NYC construction workers who died while working on site. City Council Member Jumaane Williams spoke at a vigil that was recently held for the victims. She said that we cannot sit by while people lose their lives when they are working on construction sites. She also stated that in many instances, the victims feel as though they do not have much of a voice in the construction industry.
