A deadly collision occurred in the vicinity of Western and Lenox avenues in Albany, N.Y. The crash took place on Saturday, January 14th. Police said that as they commenced a traffic stop at about 2:30 a.m., the motorist, who was later identified as Terrance Kelly, age 23, of Albany, left the scene and started driving in the western direction on Western Avenue.
As police drove in pursuit of the vehicle, the motorist crashed into a tree. The passenger who was in the back seat suffered injuries from which he died at the scene. He was identified as William Yager IV, age 25, of Albany. Mr. Kelly and the passenger in the front seat suffered non-life-threatening injuries, for which they received treatment at the scene, and at Albany Medical Center.
While some neighbors communicated to News 10 that they heard the crash, others viewed the damage. One neighbor said that the vehicle would have driven into the house if it were not for the presence of the tree. The home is a rental, and the owner, who does not reside there, went to the house right away after he watched the news.
Mr. Kelly faces one charge of driving while intoxicated. Also, he was arrested on a parole warrant, and police say there will be additional charges arising from the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
