Arkansas Motorcycle Accidents – Overview and Statistics

Motorcycle Accident Overview and Statistics – Skilled Attorneys Serving Arkansas

Each year, a tragic number of motorcyclists are injured or killed in motorcycle crashes. While the numbers are indicative of the risks motorcyclists face on the road, at Proner & Proner, our motorcycle accident attorneys do not see victims as mere statistics. Arkansas accident victims are individuals whose legal rights must be protected. We provide outstanding legal counsel to injured motorcyclists, with a focus on obtaining the financial compensation to which they are entitled. When you entrust your case to our team, you can expect to receive the exceptional legal services you need and deserve.

Motorcycle Accident Law

Federal and Arkansas motorcycle accident laws are designed to provide recourse for a motorcyclist injured because of another party or parties’ negligence. When a victim can prove that another party is at least partially at fault for the accident, the victim may obtain a motorcycle accident settlement or jury award. A number of parties, including motorcycle designers, manufacturers, and distributors, motorists, other motorcyclists, and the victim himself or herself, can be held liable for a motorcycle accident injury.

Types of Injuries

Many motorcycle accident victims suffer catastrophic injury (including spinal cord, back, burn, and brain injury). Even more tragically, a motorcycle accident can cause wrongful death. When a serious injury results from someone else’s negligent actions, it is crucial that the victim contact a motorcycle accident law firm immediately, since only a talented attorney can make sure that the appropriate parties are held responsible.

Filing a Motorcycle Accident Lawsuit

In a motorcycle accident lawsuit, the injured must be able to prove that he or she suffered an actual injury, that the motorcycle accident caused the injury, and that another party’s negligence caused the accident. Only a lawyer experienced in motorcycle accident law should be trusted to build the strongest case possible on your behalf.

Proner & Proner’s motorcycle accident attorneys have successfully handled numerous claims for clients from throughout Arkansas. Contact our firm today to schedule a free case evaluation.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Statistical information underscores both the inherent risks of travelling by motorcycle and the role of state law in helping protect motorcyclists from injury and death. The following motorcycle accident statistics highlight trends in Arkansas and the nation since 1998*:

In 1998, there were 11 motorcyclist fatalities per 10,000 registered motorcycles in the U.S., with 21,000 motorcycles registered that year.

In 1999, of Arkansas’ 604 traffic fatalities, 22 (4 percent) were motorcyclists.

Of the 640 highway traffic fatalities in Arkansas in 2006, 32 percent (208) involved a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or higher. Of these fatalities, 63 were motorcyclists, 49 percent of whom were helmeted, 21 percent of whom had a BAC of .01 or higher, and 42 percent of whom had no BAC. The number of motorcycle accident fatalities involving motorcyclists not wearing a helmet was the highest in 2006 since 1998.

In 2007, 76 motorcyclists were killed in Arkansas, 38 percent of whom were wearing helmets, 23 percent of whom were operating while intoxicated, and 36 percent of whom had a BAC of 0.01 or higher.

Arkansas is one of three states without a state-run motorcyclist training and education program, one of six states without a Sharing the Road program, and one of 16 states without a motorcycle advisory committee.
