Thirty-nine survivors of the Costa Concordia cruise ship accident will be joining the lawsuit filed by Mitchell Proner and attorneys from two other US law firms against Costa Cruise Lines and its parent company, Carnival Cruise Lines.  The lawsuit was initially filed on behalf of six victims and sought $10 million in compensatory damages and $450 million in punitive damages.

The amount of punitive damages being sought will not change; however, the attorneys will be seeking additional compensatory damages.

Although the idea of filing a class-action lawsuit had been explored, Proner and his colleagues decided that joining individual claims in a mass tort action was in the best interests of their clients.  The amended complaint is due to be filed in Florida's civil courts on Tuesday, February 14th.

Further details about the lawsuit can be found at the website of Proner & Proner, as well as the Miami Herald website.

If you or a member of your family was aboard the Costa Concordia when it ran aground on January 13th, it is important that you contact Proner & Proner immediately to ensure the protection of your rights.
